Al-Shabab militants involved in deadly Somalia attack

The Mayor of the Somali city of Kulbiyow close to the border with Kenya has been killed in a lethal daybreak assault by al-Shabab militants, residents and navy sources have confirmed.

Mohamed Tohyare Nuh was killed contained in the Kenyan navy base after al-Shabab militants stormed the bottom early Friday, a resident and a navy officer informed VOA’s Somali service. Nuh was considered one of three civilians killed within the assault, two others had been wounded, in accordance with residents.

A Somali navy official informed VOA that two troopers had been killed within the assault and a 3rd soldier was wounded.

Al-Shabab militants have now pulled out of the city after burning navy autos they seized and eradicating navy vans from the bottom.

A resident informed VOA that he might see navy jets and helicopters flying over the city. Columns of Kenyan and Somali forces left Haluqa village, 18 kilometers from Kulbiyow and at the moment are on their method to the scene, an officer stated.

Early Friday, al-Shabab fighters captured the navy base run by Kenyan and Somali troops in Kulbiyow after a large assault. The bottom is a few kilometer away from the city, residents stated.
